Contemplate for a minute, your career aspirations from both the past and for the future.
What you would have liked to have done and what you consider is still possible. Engineering
as an occupation may be a far more appropriate option than you might at first think.
Engineering is all about turning ideas into reality, but not just physically, it can also
provide a platform to achieve your personal goals and ambitions. You don't have to be a
trained mechanic to be a good engineer. Common sense, motivation, determination and a
willingness to learn will provide you with the Tools you need to become a competent engineer.
Engineering is as much about team working, communication, creative thinking and utilising
your skills as physically manufacturing a component.

Realise where you want to go and let engineering be the mechanism that takes you there.
With enough determination, engineering within BAE Systems can open up opportunities you
never thought possible. The technical partnership agreement between BAE Systems and West
McLaren Mercedes has allowed a number of our engineers to experience working in the most
prestigious of motor racing environments, Formula One. This has given a number of our
engineers the opportunity to apply their skills in the exciting arena of Formula One has
fulfilled a lifelong ambition for many of them. A number of years ago, BAE Systems was
approached by the British Skeleton Bob Team to improve the performance of their sled. The
task of improving the design was given to one of our engineers, Kristan Bromley. His
commitment and dedication to the project and the support of BAE Systems has seen him
join the British team, culminating in him finishing 3rd in the 1999-2000 World Series
competing with countries such as Canada, Austria and Switzerland. He is currently on course
to compete in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, USA. Through an engineering
background, Kristan has had the satisfaction of designing a world leading sled, becoming a
member of the British team and potentially realising an ambition of many people, that of
representing their country in an Olympic event.
