BAE SYSTEMS Awarded Contract to Provide A-10 Instruction and Briefing Room Interactive Technology To USAF

Ref: 159/2000

BAE Systems today announced the US Air Force has awarded the company a $1.1 million contract option to provide courseware development and ground instruction for A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots.

Under terms of the contract, BAE Systems Flight Simulation and Training will also develop new Briefing Room Interactive technology for the USAF Air Combat Command. This contract option is the third year of a five-year contract. BAE Systems personnel will provide A-10 instruction to USAF pilots at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona. The A-10 pilots will receive classroom instruction and simulated flight training provided by BAE Systems instructors before proceeding to actual flight training

“BAE Systems is a leader in providing contractor services for a variety of training support requirements, including courseware development, simulator and academic instruction,” said Darrell White, vice president of training support services, BAE Systems Flight Simulation and Training. “We’re pleased to be supporting the Air Force on this challenging programme and to be involved in implementing the Briefing Room Interactive concept”.

BAE Systems courseware development personnel at Davis Monthan AFB, working in concert with the Air Force, have designed the first on-line Briefing Room Interactive (BRI) suite. BRI incorporates web-based technology to bring near real time data to the pilot’s briefing room, including: current time, training and mission scenarios, weather, operational notices, target and intelligence information. Application of this current technology will enhance the pilot’s ability to structure a tactical mission using electronically gathered and disseminated information to aid in mission planning, strike force coordination and tactics application.

Note to Editors:

The Thunderbolt II is a twin engine fighter attack aircraft that employs an internally mounted GAU-8 30mm anti-tank gattling gun. The aircraft, which was used extensively in the Persian Gulf war, proved the value of its tank immobilizing weapons in support of ground troops in combat.
