BAE Systems Shared Services was formed in April 2002 and marked a major step in the continued drive to deliver internal support and specialist services more effectively across BAE Systems and its partner companies.
Like many other companies, the need to make internal services more efficient and market driven led to the formation of an organisation that is fully accountable to its customers for both the cost and performance of service delivery. Shared Services is able to pass the benefits of increased efficiency and reduced cost directly back to BAE Systems Businesses through reduced charges.
Shared Services develops strong relationships with its’ customers and uses the same best practices they use to gain a competitive advantage with their own customers, to create a value-adding partnership with them. Shared Services integrated many previously dispersed business activities into a single organisation and gained great benefit from working as one team, bringing economy of scale, standardisation of processes and considerable benefits in terms of cost and service focus. Shared Services has approximately 800 employees based across the UK and has its own balance sheet and profit and loss account. It is accountable to its’ customers though Service Level Agreements and Contracts and is subject to the normal business processes of annual business plans, monthly reporting and quarterly business reviews.
One of Shared Services’ key activities is the relationship management of the company’s outsourced contracts – the HR services contract with Xchanging HR Services (XHRS) and the Indirect Procurement contract with Xchanging Procurement Services (XPS).
