Organisation
A new structure
Originally launched in 1998, the Virtual University continues to evolve and a new governance structure has just been put in place. It ensures that there are strong links between the VU and the rest of the business with a 'joined up' approach and clear direction for skills and capability development.

The structure aims to:
  • Ensure a co-ordinated and integrated approach to education and skills/capability development within BAE Systems.
  • Maximise leverage from partnerships in education and academia.
  • Create clarity in external relations with Government and other representative bodies to maximise BAE Systems' impact on productivity, skills and education.
  • Set appropriate targets against each of these activity areas and measure progress against them.
  • Co-ordinate the work of the functional "Developing You" groups.
  • Fully exploit web-based technologies for learning and knowledge management.

The Governance structure is based around a senior management board.
